His Angel

His Angel, His Angels

By Dan L Baxley

We will start this little study with a quote from a very popular Bible account.  This will demonstrate a view often overlooked.

(Exo 3:1-2) Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.  And the Angel of YaHWEH appeared unto him (Moses) in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

Who is it that is appearing to Moses in a flame of fire?  The Angel of YaHWeH.  Angel, in this verse and other verses from the Hebrew, means, Messenger.  Make no mistake, this Angel of YaHWeH is a very powerful Angel but is not personally identified. This Angel has not problem with fire, obviously, and this reminds me about another Angel of fire, an Angel that refused to give his name, but why?

(Jdg 13:15)  And Manoah said unto the angel of YaHWEH, I pray you, let us detain you, until we shall have made ready a kid for you.
(Jdg 13:16)  And the angel of YaHWeH said unto Manoah, Though you detain me, I will not eat of your bread: and if you will offer a burnt offering, you must offer it unto YaHWeH. For Manoah knew not that he was an Angel of YaHWeH.
(Jdg 13:17)  And Manoah said to the Angel of YaHWeH, What is your name, that when your sayings come to pass we may do you honor?
(Jdg 13:18)  And the Angel of YaHWeH said to him, Why ask you thus after my name, seeing it is secret (not to be revealed)?

(Jdg 13:19)  So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto YaHWeH: and the angel did wondrously; and Manoah and his wife looked on.

(Jdg 13:20)  For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel YaHWeH ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.
(Jdg 13:21)  But the angel YaHWeH did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel YaHWeH.

The Angel (Messenger) of YaHWeH was there as a representative of YaHWeH, not there to promote himself, and not to take anything away from the focus on whom he represents.  Also, in the historical timing it was not unusual for people to engage in angel worship -- and not all angels are good, some are bad, and have an alegience to a power other than YaHWeH, or YaHshua, our Creator.

(Rev 12:9)  And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

At a certain time in history, the Devil and his angels, were cast down, not long allowed access to the Heaven of Heavens, the place were other angels live.  Satan, that old Devil, is trapped on this earth with his angels and the angels of the Heaven of Heavens do rejoice, not for our misery, but for the relief they now receive from Satan and his rebel angels no longer being among them, causing havoc.

(Rev 12:12) Therefore rejoice, you heavens, and you that dwell (live) in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has but a short time.
