  Q:
John 19:31 this is the passage that it seems that everyone misses, so that YaHshua will rise on the third day, what special sabbath was the one they were preparing for? Your brother in YaHshua.      Elliott

A:  This Sabbath was a Special Sabbath meaning it was not the regular weekly Sabbath.  This Special Sabbath was and is the First Day of Unleavened Bread.   I have discussed this on my Website in a couple of places, but you know I always enjoy refreshing things, sometimes something new comes out.  This verse and others surrounding it have to do with an even deeper question surrounding our Savior's true identity.  His true Identity and the differences between our Savior and the savior that is taught today in another gospel is all connected to the truth found in the question you ask.  This answer will be longer than most Q & A presentations for this very reason, to uncover, once again the True Messiah.

You are right about this verse being overlooked -- I believe it is overlooked  on purpose, for the most part, because it does not fit in with the Christian teaching that our Lord was crucified on a Friday.  Modern Christianity's pagan past come up here, Friday was the Fish God, Dagon's day and Sunday was the Sun's day and so, by dove tailing (blending, hooking together) our Lord's crucifiction and resurrection with these two days the deception concerning the true Identity of our Lord YaHshua continues.  It is not convenient to see this truth as it may lead to other things.

That week there were two Sabbaths, a High Sabbath and the regular Weekly Sabbath.  Also it says the day of our Lord's death on the cross was the "preparation day" which is the day they were slaughtering the Lambs for the Passover feast to be eaten that evening.  People are easily confused about this because most are illiterate when it comes to understanding the Holy Days given to Israel and even the Jews are confused, not seeing these Holy Days as our Creator's, basic outline, or plan, for His people.

The Holy Days are all called High Sabbaths, only Passover itself is not a Sabbath but a High Sabbath follows that day.  Bible prophecy must be aligned with these Holy Days in order to be correct, but few if any teach this and go off on their own interpretations of things to come.   It does seem to be a concerted effort to keep the people ignorant and to make religion all about feeling good as the preachers work on the emotions instead of the building of the mind and spirit -- some have gone so far to make the Christian religon a form of interntainment.  Some very emotional groups act as if they must call down the Holy Spirit, to be baptized again and again, always looking for that feeling, that emotional high.  This, sad to say, is a type of denial -- not believing the promised Holy Spirit -- always searching and never finding.

YaHshua ate "a" Passover with His disciples but to the disciples they may not have known that.  They knew they were at an inn to prepare and eat the Passover meal, but except for YaHshua saying what He said this meal may have been an evening meal not a Passover meal, which they would have been expecting to happen the next night, as with all Israel.  How do we know this?  YaHshua blessed the bread, not the Lamb, and it would not have been fitting for our Passover Lamb to be eating the Passover Lamb.  Yes, YaHshua did say that He desired to eat "this" Passover with them, but like Judas receiving the bread and then getting up to go and earn his pieces of silver, the other disciple heard and saw but it did not register.  It seem reasonable to me that the Disciples thought they would be eating the Passover Meal the following evening.
Problem verses -- trying to time the Passover:

(Mat 26:2)  You know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.

He does not say that "in two days" but "AFTER two days", this would make the Passover day, or evening, on the third say from the time He said this.

(Mat 26:3-5)  Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,   And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him. But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.

From this we can determine our Savior would not be killed on the Feast Day, so, this had to happen just before the Passover Feast day, which would then place the crucifiction on the Preparation day -- perfect timing for slaying of the Passover Lambs coinciding with our Lords slaying.

(Mat 26:17)  Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?

Problem:  The first day of Unleavened Bread happens after the Passover Feast and is a Sabbath day, a High Sabbath day (The Command - Ex 12:12-15).  From what we have already read we know that the plan was to kill our Savior on the preparation day, before Passover, and that YaHshua has already said that the Passover was three days away (after two days).  This would mean this translation, the KJV is incorrect or a misquote because their is not way they would be on the First Day of Unleavened Bread and still not having ate the Passover meal.

(Mat 26:19-21)  And the disciples did as YaHshua had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.  Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.   And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

Problem: The timing of these verses puts the Passover after the days of Unleavened Bread.  We know that cannot be, but these verse then put the Passover a day before the Passover the Priests called for and were making plans to kill YaHshua before that day of the Passover.  Judas even went to the Priest, just before this meal, and made a convenant with the Priests and the Elders for the 30 pieces of silver.  Passover could not be on this night, but we read that they, the Disciples and YaHshua were eating the Passover meal, or so it seems.  This cannot be, however, and does not fit the prophetic outline for YaHshua becoming the Passover Lamb, the final sacrifice for all that would repent.  By His blood, not the blood of lambs are we covered and our sins taken away.

Some have tried to explain this, mostly those teaching the obligation to the Law -- observing the Feast days and all Sabbath days --  that there were actually two Passovers because the Jews could not agree on which day it was supposed to be on.  This, however, cannot be correct as the commandment from Moses is in the Old Covenant that it is the Priests that decide when and what day the Passover is to be on.  So, whether Pharisee or Sadducee or Elders it would have been the duty of the Priest to make the calculation and no other would be accepted.  By the reading of the verses just quoted it would seem that perhaps the Priests had calculated the Passover a day late and our Lord corrected this.  But, this cannot be either as the Day of Pentecost, 50 day later, is calculated from the Feast of Unleavened Bread which falls after the Passover and we have the account of the Disciples meeting on the Day of Pentecost awaiting the Holy Spirit.

What is the answer then?  For me is would be that the wording in the KJV is again incorrect or a bit twisted.  It says the disciples made ready for the Passover, not specifically that the day they sat down for a meal was the Passover day, only that the Passover, that was to happen a day, or an evening later, was made ready -- a meal they would never eat, for our Lord would be on the cross that next evening and taken down as the Jewish community sat down to their Passover meal.  The True Passover Lamb's blood shed for us. He was taken to the cross on the "preparation day".

The Passover Lambs were being collected by the Jews for the "preparation day"  and for the killing to be eaten at the Passover.  They, the Jews, never seemed to get the message for they did this in remembrance of when they fled Egypt -- I guess no one ever asked what the killing of the Lamb and eating it meant, even on that night of their flight.  Why the blood on the door post of their house and why consume all of it and what happened to those who did not?  It was a type of salvation by the Lamb of God being delivered by the Blood at the door of the house so the evil could not enter and take a life.  Their salvation depended upon this then and now, but they denied this message and carried on with their custom and could not see how they were about to slay the true Passover Lamb, YaHshua.

(Mat 26:28)  For this is my blood of the New Testament (Covenant - contract), which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

This New Covenant, replacing the Old Covenant made with the people of Israel, the Jews, is now a "covenant" or "testament" made with the world, both Jew and Gentile, for the "remission of sins".  Let's have a look at this word, "remission" --

aphesis -- af'-es-is
From
G863; freedom; (figuratively) pardon: - deliverance, forgiveness, liberty, remission.

The definition of this word says it all -- freedom from sin -- pardoned -- delivered from sin -- forgiven -- liberty from sin.  Remember, the penalty for sin is death and we are all sinners from birth and even if we were to live a holy life, doing everything right we would still be a sinner.  In our current state sin claims us in its penalty but our Lord YaHshua went to the "stake" for us, dying, literally for all of us, that we may live, covering all our sin making us an acceptible host for our Heavenly Father's Holy Spirit.  His blood and sacrifice means that much and more, able to cover and hid our sin and sins so we can be called Children of the Living God, brothers and sisters of YaHshua, adopted into the Kingdom to come as His and His.

(Eph 1:4-5)  According as He has chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love:  Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by YaHshua the Christ to Himself (God the Father), according to the good pleasure of His Will,

This has been the plan all along, even before the world was create -- "before the foundations of the world".  When some see this word, "predestinated" they think in terms of having lived before or that we have no choice as individuals for He has already decided who lives and who dies.  This is not the meaning at all, it merely means His Plan was determined before any humans were ever created.  You do not build a building without blueprints.  From the First World and the Great Flood we can see the beginning of this plan did not go well and if not for Noah we might all not even be here.  Our Heavenly Father, in His Love and mercy, saw fit to continue His Plan with a few alterations, as we an see from the Old Covenant record and the final adjustment coming in the form of the New Covenant.  Praise God, praise Him, HalleluYaH!

Passover or Not?

So, did the disciples then, being good Jews, sit down and eat the Passover Meal?  No, they were running for their lives, hiding  trying to figure out what to do next on Passover evening - YaHshua was dead, being placed in a grave and hardly a mention of His original Disciples at this time.  None of them seemed to see the message until YaHshua was raised from the dead and paid them a visit.

The Christians teach the disciples received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost (another High Sabbath) a day that comes 50 days after the first day of Unleavened Bread, which is the evening after the Passover meal that all the Jews ate, but it seems the Disciples did not, at least not on the same evening as the rest of the people.  You see how it works -- they could not eat the Passover meal on the right day because, unknown to then, at that time, by the eating of the Bread and the drinking of the Wine they had already accepted YaHshua as their Passover Lamb.  They would not understand this until they received the Holy Spirit.  They received the Holy Spirit, however, when YaHshua breathed on each of them, then they began to understand everything YaHshua had said and done at the evening meal He ate with them.  They did not have to wait for Pentecost to receive the Holy Spirit, the other disciples did, however, but the original 11 received the Holy Spirit from YaHshua as we read --

(John 20:22)  And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, Receive you the Holy Ghost:

Identifying the Prince of the People in Daniel -

The Prince of our people (believers) was cut off in the middle of the week, just a prophet said.  This too is misunderstood and misapplied in Satan's effort to keep the Author of the true plan of Salvation away from the human populations.  This is where we can, perhaps, have a better understanding of what the Prophet Daniel was telling us.  Remember, Daniel was writing what he was given to see for the future, from his time.  The KJV of what Daniel had to say can be confusing so we will go to a newer version for a better understanding.

(Dan 9:26-27)  After the sixty-two 'sevens,' the Anointed One will be cut off and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed.
He will confirm a covenant with many for one 'seven.' In the middle of the'seven' he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on a wing of the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him. " NIV

These verses have been used to identify the Beast, but when you read this properly you can see it is a prophecy about our Savior.  Everyone agrees that verse 26 is about our Savior and is a proof YaHshua is the One, by the counting of the sixty-two sevens many have calculated our Lords arrival at the precise time or YaHshua's appearance.  But for some reason the prophecy teachers then jump ahead and, out of context, apply the next verse to the Beast.  YaHshua, as the Passover Lamb, the final sacrifice in the sacrificial system of Israel, did put an end to the "sacrificial system".

Of course the Jews keep on going, not accepting YaHshua as the Passover Lamb, denying Him, and what happened, in 69-70 AD the Romans were allowed to destroy the Temple and Temple worship.  So, 70 years, after the birth of our Lord (approximately, due to confusion over His birth date), the Sacrificial system was halted.  Those accepting the Messiah, YaHshua, already had ended this obligation of the Old Covenant.  Notice that the agreement or Covenant of a Week, is cut off in the middle, just as our Lord was cut off, literally, in the middle of the week, crucified on Wednesday evening as Passover began, Wednesday being the "preparation day".

It all fits, our Lord did make a covenant with many and this New Coveanant is not finished for it was interupted and will be finished, making the full seven day complete.  This works in nicely with the Lord's ministry only being three and a half years to be followed by the Two Witnesses three and a half year ministry, completing the Seven year agreement and Ministry of YaHshua.

Lamb or God, our Sacrificial Lamb
He was killed on the preparation day just as the Passover Lambs were being slain -- our Lord was dead on the cross, the first Lamb slaughtered as the Jews prepared to sit down for their Passover meal.  They, the Priests and the Elders, wanted Him off the cross so they could enjoy the Passover without their guilt hanging over them -- certainly they did not see it this way but that is what happened.

The following Day was a High Sabbath, the day after the Passover evening, the evening our Lord was placed in the grave.  The Passover itself is not a Sabbath day but the first day of Unleavened Bread is.  So, He dies on the evening of Wednesday, that very evening being the Passover, placed in the grave, then the next evening is the High Sabbath, the first day of Unleavened Bread.

When our Lord Said He would be three days and three nights in the grave He meant it and if you count from the Wednesday death to the time the Tomb was found EMPTY you have a full 3 day and 3 night time period accounted for.  If you take the Christian teaching of a Friday death you cannot get this prophetic accuracy and it is this kind of thing that lead me to believe they worship a different messiah.

Not all Christians, to be sure, but most follow the teachers of "another" Savior, one that was born on a different date than our Savior -- their savior was crucified on a different day -- their savior has a different name, even, called Jesus instead of His birth Name YaHshua (Joshua, the Old English Transliteration).

They are using "our" book about our Savior to justify a religion that has been hijacked by pagan concepts and then when you point this out they say, "Oh, that doesn't matter, it is what is in your heart that counts"..  I have been told this many times because they have no other defense.  They teach "another" messiah and preach how important it is to preach in the name of Jesus and to baptize in that name and to believe in that name, that is, until you put up the evidence they are preaching in a different name and then it is no longer important but a matter of the heart -- the emotional base of our being, connected to our minds.  The Mind is supposed to rule the Heart (our emotions) not the other way around.

(Joh 5:43)  I am come in my Father's Name, and you receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him you will receive.
(Isa 42:8)  I am YHWH (YaHWeH): that is My Name: and My glory will I not give to another, neither My praise to graven images.

This seems to be something very important, doesn't it?  Both the Old and New Covenants contain this message of using or not using "another" name, a different Name.  Isaiah compares it to the calling on the GLORY of our Creator, His Name is the expression of His Glory and of the Glory of our Lord YaHshua.  What about the Message, what about the message of Salvation and how we enter this New Covenant?

(Gal 1:6-8)  I marvel that you are so soon removed from Him that called you into the grace of the Christ to another gospel:  Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of the Christ.  But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed.

There is no wiggle room here.  Notice Pauls says "another Gospel, which is not another", seems contradictory but think about it.  He is saying the Gospel being taught, is actually the correct message but in error, not the pure Gospel they, the disciples taught.  Something was happening way back then that gave Paul the inspiration to say these words.  A Gospel that is not THE Gospel but so close as to the right message, but missing something.  Paul goes on to reveal the Gospel of freedom was being used to put, or an attempt to put believers right back into the chains of "doctrine" and the traditions of me and the Gospel was being used to do this, thus, "another gospel".  Today we see the Gospel of Salvation preached by and in another Name, a different Name from that which our Savior was born -- a Name given Him at birth, delivered by the Gabriel directly from His Heavenly Father.

Think about this:  The name JESUS did not exist until about 400 years ago.  The translators of the time had a name that was very close and in pronunciation was a transliteration of His Birth Name, YaHshua, and that Name was JOSHUA, and was right before the translator's eyes and they refused to use it, instead giving us the bogus name JESUS.  The "J" and the "I" of that period was pronounced as we would the "Y" today and as found, by example, in the Jewish/Hebrew alphabet -- Y as in the Yod -- this is how it is pronounced, just as you would say it if you were to say, Yod, now say it as for His Name and you have YaH -- The Old English transliteration would be said as Yoshua -- very close, not invisible, not lost, it is in every English transliteration printed, except for the New Testament when it comes to our Lord and Savior, YaHshua, then the name is changed.  Is it important?  It seems to be very important when you listen to all of the messages of the Gospel by Christian preacher and Evangelicals as they call on this false name at every turn, calling on, praying in, baptizing into this false name, Jesus.

(Act 4:12) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other Name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

When you read a verse like this there is not more room for discussion, but still, people fight against this idea that they have been fooled, that they have bought into this great deception.   It is the preachers, the priests, the elders and deacons with the responsibility of protecting the flock from such deception.  Perhaps they are part of the deception for either they kick against the truth or they are ignorant, either way they are teaching you another gospel in another name.

Peace, your servant, Dan
